Reclamation

The woman
Stands at the ocean’s edge
And casts her net about
She hopes that
This will be
Her catch of the week
(For every other has failed)
Impatient to begin the haul
Her fingers pick at the frayed
Ends of her mind;
An outline here
The echo of a word there,
Enough!
She tugs at the net
Hand over hand
She pulls it in
Only to find
That the mesh is
Filled with Holes…
Words
Complete sentences
Begin to escape before
She can even grasp
One idea
Helpless
She watches them float
Away
On the tide of
Forgetfulness
The dank mist of despair
Lingers like a veil
(Word craft
Is her nourishment )
And she is starving

Frozen stiff from the cold
Of not knowing
Her mind remains empty
As to the why she stands at
This emotional precipice

Even so
Tears of grief
Fall unimpeded
These wondrous droplets
Pool at the most intimate place
Where woman and
Heart meet
To coalesce into memory
There they lay waiting
For her to wake
From this induced slumber
Unwittingly she dips her finger
To trace these
Precious waters from
Throat to mouth
To taste their salty residue
A spark ignites synapses deep inside
This shooting star
Lighting the Milky Way
Of her mind
Nouns
Verbs
Phrases with
Sentences complete
Dance on the
Slipstream and currents
Of her being
Her tremulous heart
Leaps with joy
For she has recaptured
Her love called Word
In the sands of time she
Quickly begins to scribe
Nonsense at first;
The sheer delight of
Remembrance is quite enough,
Unaware
A pattern starts to emerge
A weaving so intricate and
Immense that the sun and
Moon visit seven times

Tired beyond measure
Eventually the woman
Lays down to rest
Filled with a
Peace
And a
Quiet
Her mind now
Empty of its blissful
Catch;
Is content to
Trust,
For she has
Reclaimed her future
Of the morrow
