NASA Must be Scraping the Bottom of the Barrel
Another piece from “The Big Coat.” This was done a few years ago. (Back when I was in my markers, ink, and anything else I can get my hands on phase). It’s not one of my absolute favorites, but I don’t hate it either. It’s sort of like plain old vanilla ice cream to me, it’s tastes fine, I’m not going to spit it out, but it would taste a heck of a lot better if it were chocolate.
NASA Must be Scraping the Bottom of the Barrel belongs to the following groups:

Super cool Steven, awesome marker pen work
Steven Novak replied
Glad you like it Pinky. I went though a phase a few years back where everything had have markers in it. (It wasn’t my proudest moment) ;)

Great! What is the story about how does the coat come into play?
Steven Novak replied
The story was kind of lame actually. The kid finds this coat and when he puts it on he ends up doing all these grown-up jobs, and they all kind of suck, so he decides maybe it’s better to enjoy being a kid. (Not my best writing). There was this sort of cool portly man who actually owned the coat that followed him around in every page of the book (He’s in the space shuttle in this one) which was a sort of cool addition though.

Thanks Joan!

Plain old venilla to you Steven but it looks like a sundae with all the toppings – including chocolate – to me. A great illustration with loads of detail.
Steven Novak replied
Well, I appreciate the kind words Brian. Maybe I’m being to hard on it, who knows. Thanks!

i don’t know how you can say that Steven, it absolutely amazing
your work is the most detailed i have ever seen
and there again, is my fave patchwork jacket
wonderful :)
Steven Novak replied
Maybe it’s better than I think. I don’t hate it by any means, don’t get me wrong, I just think I’ve done better. Though, generally whatever I’m currently doing I tend to think is my best, then I end up hating it a year later. ;) Thanks Karin!
Tahnja
lol, you’re explanation is brilliant, wish I could think like that LOL. I like this draw, it’s pretty cool Steven. Yeah and I have to say that the coat just draws you in every time. (got the fifty in da mail, ta bro hehehe)
Steven Novak replied
Ohhh ya, the fifty…must have gotten lost somewhere during transport. I think the blame should fall on Fed-Ex, not me. ;) Thanks Tajhja!

i’m actually thinking about getting into markers & crayons. Have you seen the most amazing crayon artist ever? http://www.themastercrayonartist.biz/
Steven Novak replied
I had never seen his stuff before, no. I must say though, that’s some pretty amazing stuff considering it was made with crayons.

Okay … I WANT that patchwork coat!!! I have always loved patchwork since I was a seven year old who was dumped on his Welsh grandma for a couple of months. She tucked me up to sleep in an iron framed bed with a home made patchwork quilt on it. You are really the tops at art Steven!
Steven Novak replied
The patchwork coat is available at your local Walmart for the fun-tastic price of $8.99. (Between you and me it’s made of some awfully cheap materials.) ;)

OH THIS ONE :o)
right now what can I say about it to convince you I’m worth 2 autographed lithographs …. ??
Great Gadgets Stunning stars Cool Craters and the fat man has a little head!
Mate this is AWESOME!!!
I still wanna see the story! I have 4 really intelligent literary loving kids I’ll get them to read it and they can tell you it’s awesome and worth reworking! ok?
does that mean you need 2 cherries now ? Hey I’ll throw in home made chocolate sauce – goes great on vanilla ice cream …. which by the way I happen to prefer over chocolate ice cream! :o)
please please pretty please ?? .... or do I have to tell you you “rox my sox” or whatever? lol
And hey you can keep 2 fifties now! :o) see I get cheaper by the drawing! lol :o)
Keep Happy Mate! :o)
Steven Novak replied
I’m a fan of anyone who calls me “Mate.” ;) Seriously though, thanks for all the kind words. I don’t know, maybe I will give it a reworking. I always thought the story was a bit corny, but maybe that was because I wrote it so badly. ;) THANKS MATE!

Wow! How’d I get the font to go all weird and freaky like that??? lol :o) Chookas!
Steven Novak replied
CHOOKAS! (I have no idea what it means, but it’s fun to type) ;)
Tracey-Anne Pryke
what a stunner love the big coat
Steven Novak replied
You’re much to nice to me Tracey. ;)

Chookas is a theatrical term for good luck considering it’s considered bad luck to wish someone good luck in the theatre ok?
Also don’t whistle inside a theatre cos it’s bad luck too
and saying break a leg is good luck and should ward off an actor actually doing that! and if you say good luck then you have to counter it with kissing 3 actors and saying chookas!
aaaaah the weird things actors do!
and who says we’re strange???? lol :o)
Alyson Pearson
I love that coat!
Steven Novak replied
Thanks again Alyson!
