A New Friend

A New Friend

This is the VERY LAST illustration from “Snow Man is My Friend” and, as luck would have it, it’s also the very last illustration in the book.

Finally…I’ve posted them all…a sense of accomplishment runs through me like a winding stream at the base of a soft grassy hill – warm, and pleasant, and fulfilling.

Then a meteor smashes into it or something, burning everything, and destroying life for miles upon miles in every direction, as I realize that I’ve got a lot a lot of other work to do.

Aint’ it always the case?

I actually don’t hate this illustration. It comes alongside one of the happier endings to something that I’ve ever written. Hopefully everyone who looked at this series liked it. I appreciated all of your comments greatly.

Thanks Di! As far as endings go, I think it works pretty well…but then, I completely admit to being a little biased. ;)

You can definately see the happy ending in this! Wonderful illustrations… all of them.

  • Steven Novak replied

Thanks Paul, I appreciate that. Coming from someone who understands light and composition the way you do that means a lot.

Huzzah! Yeah, we can see them all now! Congrats. I absolutely love how the snowman is looking directly at the viewer. Also, the window pane and sill… wow. The perspective is great… they look real and I can feel the cold smoothness of the sill. Powerful.

Awesome Mate : ) the details inside are amazing..it looks like a photograph. I loved the narrative too… I went all gooey when you were waxing lyrical.. and thought wow..that’s so romantic..and so unlike (the image you try and get us to believe) Steve…..AND THEN the meteor came crashing down! And then i thought….nah.. now that’s the Steve we know and love.. live sucks big time and we all know it! : ) and yet here we all are… gluttons for punishment all of us!! Wen xox

The foreground is nicely rendered. This kinda reminds me of some animations where the scenes would be done more realistically while and thing that moves, like characters, would be simpler; but it all comes together nicely.
