Yet Another Kid Running From Monsters
This is kind of an older piece (back from when I was in college). Believe it or not, until I started digging through old stuff and posting it here on Redbubble I never realized just how often I painted kids running away from monsters, aliens, and other scary things.
I think I might seriously be in need of therapy.

Maybe you were just scared a lot as a kid? Love your work! Keep on Steven!
Steven Novak replied
Either that, or I’m just a very sick person. (I think we’ll go with the scared thing.) ;)
pinkyjain
No therapy for you, keep this fantastic art coming. This is so charming, maybe a bit scary, for the girl at least. The colors are top notch, too. We’re these with the marker pens?
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Pinky! The drawing was laid down in black ink, then I did a wash in Gouache, and topped it all off by slapping on some highlights in markers. The green smoke was Gouache too, just laid on thicker. I used this method a lot back then.

Just love it!

Thanks Rita!

Art is it’s own therapy, Steven. A little “BOO!” every now and then is good for the nervous system. I love to scare people with my art…sometimes but not all the time. Superb colors and linework, Steven.
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Seth, and I agree a little “boo” every now and then is a good thing. My wife actually hates “boo’s” which makes it all the more fun to scare her. ;)

I like to think she broke the sactity of the “No girls allowed” sign and is being chased off…
You have such talent! And I agree…the colours are amazing!
Steven Novak replied
The old “no girls allowed” sign was smart. They say girls have cooties you know, and I tend to agree with them. ;)
butchart
some serious warpedness in this one…..cool
Steven Novak replied
Warpedness is good…I think. ;)
Brian Towers
Great imagination and beautifully painted Steven.
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Brian, much appreciated.
Paul Compton
Love the bunny slippers! Great details and choice of colours Steven : )
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Paul, I actually don’t hate the bunny slippers myself. I’m not sure that I could personally pull the look off, but they work for little blond girls. ;)
darkestartist
i agree with Paul, the bunny slippers make this for me. love the vivid colors and her expression is great!
Steven Novak replied
I’m sort of surprised anyone even noticed the slippers. I thought they blended into the background too much, too sloppy…guess maybe I was wrong? ;)
Lisa Jewell
You’ve gone and woken the 6 year old in me…..I remember that face and monsters, I saw them every night in everything in my bedroom.
You are so damn talented…...When is your book coming out?
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Lisa! My book will come out when I can convince someone to publish it…so…ummm…quite possibly never. ;)

Steven Novak replied
Art is therapy isn’t it? Now I just need to figure out how to give myself therapy, charge myself for therapy, and make some money off of it. ;)
jaycee
fantastic work… just love the detail :)
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Jaycee!
