I Bet it Smells Like Elephant Poop in There

This is a really quick charcoal sketch I did a few years ago that I pulled out while digging through some old work. Maybe it’s not the single greatest thing I’ve ever done, but I do think that the concept is interesting.

Maybe?

Maybe not?

I dunno.

Some of the sloppiness can be forgiven though, since this was really more of a sketch than anything.

No?

Maybe?

Please?

Leave me alone…I’m tired.

Same sentiments as Margpie! I think this is a very beautiful sketch…and it raises many questions like why the elephants are inside the jar :D

Mmmmmm, yummmy yummy smell. Great sketch, love the expression. The lights and shading are excellent. Will be cool to see why Elephants would want to poop in a jar, especially with the lid on

I just took the trash out :P …

Nice elephants! Although elephants, having those big noses that they do, would really suffer if it smelled in there~

Thanks Udonchow, glad you like it. As far as the questions it raises, I’m ashamed to say that I have no answers. ;)

I suppose your fart joke is partly my fault. I make a poop reference and a fart one was sure to be close behind. ;)

Steven Novak in reply to darkestartist’s comment, 2 months ago

I’m not sure if that was a compliment or not. ;)

Just how many elephant poop sketches have you seen Seth? ;)

  • Steven Novak

Steven Novak in reply to Alan Rodmell’s comment, 2 months ago

Thanks Alan. I sometimes struggle to really nail lighting without some decent reference, but I think I got this one pretty close. Go figure.

now there’s certainly a storyline waiting to happen. Never thought of elephants in a bottle but then I’ve never been a writer either lol. You’re always brilliant, even with a quick sketch

Perhaps another story in the offing here? Perhaps she has stumbled on some mad scientist’s lab and he has been shrinking animals and their habitats for future regeneration… I know I know my imagination often gets away from me…

speaks to me about endangered species. the charcoal quality is ‘other worldly” and has the feel of paint. All your work is rich with imagination, no wonder you are a writer/ artist. Love your drawings full of characters and stories and the colours and contrasts that go way beyond illustration. Brilliant body of work.

Yes, it does appeal…maybe because…that is the kind of statement a child would say first…I can her her brain ticking away :) ~ Anni
