Don't Ask, Because I Don't Have an Answer
Another older piece.
Don’t ask me what it’s supposed to mean, because I don’t have anything resembling an answer.
While uploading some of my older work recently I noticed that a lot of the stuff I made during my “marker-crazy” period makes very little sense. Do you think it has something to do with the marker fumes?

Thanks mate! (See, I told you it would come off lame) ;)
RavenSoul
Unique is a good word for it lol Love your detail as always, Vonne
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Vonne, and yes…we’ll just stick with unique because unique is better than crummy which is our only other option to describe this. ;)
CDrewHughes
Who says it has to make sence! I like it! =)
Steven Novak replied
Ya! Exactly! Up with nonsense! Down with everything else! We’ll start a revolution! ;)
Cimmerrian
lol Steve , you may want to resist the temptation to “sniff” the markers , it has been proven to kill brain cells …lol… but great work as always !!!
Steven Novak replied
Luckily I have very little left to kill. ;) Thanks Steve!
Di Dowsett

xx
Steven Novak replied
Thanks!
cheetaah
it is amazing even those days you were drawing fantasticly.
Steven Novak replied
Technically “those days” were only in college. But by “those days” you could have also meant, when I was hopped up on marker sniff, in which case, yes…it is amazing. ;)
dimarie
great art doesnt have to make any sense!
this is wicked! :)
Steven Novak replied
If great people didn’t have to make sense I would be mother Theresa. ;) Thanks!
Rajee
Cool creatures. Is that you when you were younger. Superb artwork.
Steven Novak replied
Not me, no. I didn’t have quite as many freckles. ;)
Brian Towers
I’ve always thought that markers were underrated and underused by artists and illustrators – you’re showing us just how effective they can be with this piece Steven.
Steven Novak replied
I appreciate that Brian, thanks!
Jen Cannella
Awwww, yes, the fuuuuuuuumes…sorry I’ll put the cap back on my marker! Great work…non-sense is good!
Steven Novak replied
Pass that maker this way. Don’t be a marker hog. ;)
CATNIPMEOW
OKAY so now I see YOU must have had extra “sugar” in that coffee and NO I am not talking splenda
ha ha or maybe the markers were made in China and had an extra kick like those aqua dots -
Steven Novak replied
Ohhhh, so you must mean sweet and low then. Gotcha. ;)
CATNIPMEOW
p.s. his expression is priceless :)
Renate Dartois
Great art-work Steven-very cool.
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Renate!
Jan Piller
Well he certainly looks a little stoned on marker fumes – also – it’s raining cats and dogs.. well dogs anyway. So if you can’t explain yourself then I guess we’ll just have to put it down to marker fumes… pot is way better though.
Steven Novak replied
You just haven’t been sniffing the right markers. ;) Thanks Jan!
Chanel2
If marker fumes makes you do cool drawings like this…I gotta go and buy me some markers :))
Steven Novak replied
You don’t need to buy them, just hang out in the school supplies aisle at your local Wal-Mart. ;)
Tahnja
marker fumes? rofl,, maybe??? I think this is awesome! Love those gerbel looking things lol!!!!
Steven Novak replied
“Gerbal looking things” is as good an explanation as to what they are as any I could come up with. Nicely done. ;)
BLYTHART
He looks bewildered, so I guess he doesn’t know what it means either :)) Everything you upload is a pleasure to behold.
Steven Novak replied
Much appreciated Dave. The feeling is mutual.
Shannon Rene' ...
awesome steven….you totally rock
Steven Novak replied
Do I? Really? How hard? Do I rock Motely Crue hard, or the Nelson twins hard? ;)
Karin Taylor
hahaa…possibly Steven, possibly!!
I know what fixative does to my brain :D
great artwork, even if it doesn’t have any meaning, a lot of my stuff has no meaning either!
Steven Novak replied
Fixative….ohhhh yaaa…don’t even get me started on fixative. ;)
butchart
i think it probably has more to do with your inner child being in control…. and don’t ask me what that means because i really don’t have a clue…........b
Steven Novak replied
So we’re in the same boat then. Good to know that I’m not alone. ;)
jewelskings
I like this one ! Maybe try the fruit smelling markers and see what you come up with! I would love to create something like this but to much marker fumes gives me a headache!
Steven Novak replied
Fruit smelling markers, ya…good idea. Wait, no…I don’t want to go down that road again. In fact, I think I need to give my sponsor a call. ;)
Lee Kerr
They’ve escaped from ‘Time Tunnel’.
Steven Novak replied
That’s as good an explanation as I have. ;)
elisab
Neat little fellow in the image. He looks like he is having fun, whether it is marker fumes or not, he seeems happy.
Steven Novak replied
So your point is, enjoy happiness even if it’s drug enduced? ;)
Melanie Atkins

Steven Novak replied
Thanks Melanie!
Shannon Rene' ...
Um…..Is that a question I should answer? LOL ;)
samedog

The pink ones smell the best. ;)
RMonroe
He’s adorable:)
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Robin!
clarkey
It doesn’t have to make sense, Steve. It’s cute all in its own right. I love the wide-eyed surprised look on Junior’s face and the creature on his right hiding his face, maybe to hide the laughter? At what, I wouldn’t dare to venture a guess! Love the bright colours and the wormhole behind.
Steven Novak replied
If things really don’t have to make any sense to be good, then suddenly my life seems to have meaning! ;) Thanks Clarkey!
Tracey-Anne Pryke
lol! I think he may be your inner self…the eye’s say it all…..perfect creation
Steven Novak replied
Are you saying that my eyes look like that? ;)
JayMartin
great illustration, good style, maybe it’s you as a kid
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Jay! Maybe it is me. I don’t recall traveling through any weird green time tunnels in my youth, but you never know. ;)
Tracey-Anne Pryke
lol! only you can answer that one
