Too Much Time On My Hands
Back when I was interested in super detailed pencil renderings I pulled this drawing out of my butt. It’s insane. My eyes hurt by the time I was done with it. My friends looked at me weird and my parents said they no longer wanted me as their son. I was shunned by society as a whole once they realized the amount of time I must have spent hunched over my drawing table working on a drawing of a frog.
In fact, there’s SO much detail in this that if it doesn’t make you pee your underpants I’ll pee mine.
Either way someone is walking out of here bow-legged, stinky, and embarrassed.

Let’s be honest, those were wet before you even looked at my frog drawing…you’re just using it as an excuse, aren’t you? ;)

Leslie Patton
WOW amazing Detail. Love it!!
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Leslie! My fingers still hurt years after drawing this stupid thing. ;)
mhkantor
astounding work. it definitely was worth it.
Steven Novak replied
Thanks, I appreciate that.
CATNIPMEOW
It looks like a black and white photograph….......VERY impressive :)
Steven Novak replied
The most impressive thing about it is that I had such a boring life around the time I made this that I had time to actually make it. Or wait…maybe that’s the opposite of impressive. ;)
cheetaah
your the CSI of the artist…..... very amazing, great details.
Steven Novak replied
Maybe I should consider a career in medical illustration? ;)

hikickry
thanks steven, those were clean pants!
Steven Novak replied
Don’t worry, It’ll be our secret. ;)
Brian Towers
Well I’ve got to say Steven you didn’t hold back on the detail, warts and all. When we were kids we thought handling frogs worked like a diaretic, only we used a different word. Your self-inflicted torture produced an amazing piece.
Steven Novak replied
Nope, I didn’t hold back. In fact, I think I added more detail than there was in my reference. Why I would want to do that, I don’t know. Glutton for punishment maybe? ;)
Naylor
This isn’t just some frog Steven…. Look at him.. he is smart and observant… slow and careful with his movements … his eyes see all and he takes the time to see the beauty that surrounds him….. ..... hmmmmmmmmm sounds like the artist who created him :)
You certainly are no frog my friend but I think your work and talent is increduble !!!!! (((((HUG))))))
Steven Novak replied
Smart? Observant? Slow and careful? Seeing beauty? Hmmm…you got the slow part right, but that’s about it. ;) Seriously though, thanks Naylor.

To Quote you ” Damn Youre Good! “
Steven Novak replied
To quote you “Thanks so much Steven” Wait…I guess that doesn’t really work, does it? ;)
Shannon Rene' ...
hey now…i think hours and hours spent on drawing a frog is time well spent…but that is coming from the crazy girl whose house is filled with froggy-goodness…..
Steven Novak replied
Mmmm… froggy goodness. ;)
Lynda Berlin
Hey, to heck with your aching eyes. My sympathy goes to that poor frog as he held the pose that long.
Steven Novak replied
Pssst…he was dead. Okay, actually he was a photograph, but wouldn’t it have been creepy if he was dead? ;)
elisab
Well, I didn’t pee my pants, but I am impressed. Lots of work in this one. You did a great job.
Steven Novak replied
Thanks Elisa! Yes…lots of work. Lots and lots and lots of work. ;)
Jennifer Woodward

Steven Novak replied
Well spent? Hmmmm…I’m not too sure about that one. ;) Thanks Jennifer!
Jan Piller
Yah – I viewed it large too and it’s amazing!! Your insanity makes for really good art!
Steven Novak replied
That’s a general rule of art in general, no? ;)
Walker Everette
I love it. Amphibians rule!
Steven Novak replied
Not yet, no. But in time, yes. They will be our masters, and a harsh set of masters they will be. ;)

Steven Novak replied
Get out of here. If I could paint a wave as good as you I wouldn’t have to run through pencils drawing stupid frogs. ;)
clarkey
The time was well spent – those who disowned you did themselves a huge disservice. This is brilliant, although, my sympathies to the froggy for having to stay still for that long. LOL I didn’t pee my pants, either, I’m a big girl, now!!!!
Steven Novak replied
No need to feel sympathy for the frog. He was well paid. (Who knew a frog would have an agent?) ;)

Alll “artists” have too much time on their hands… it is in fact a pre-requisite. Much like multiple personality defects and deep emotional issues/resentment with (insert your choice of relative here)
It is what makes us EXCEPTIONAL!! =))
Nice toad ;) Very…..........detailed. You are such a freak Novak.
Steven Novak replied
Yes…umm…exceptionalCOUGHvery exceptional. Not exactly the word I would chose, but we can go with it. ;)

Wow! Wow! Wow! Tremendous. Freaking wonderful Steven! You are immensely talented. (Your tags down the bottom seem to have formed a really insane rambling sentence about drawing frog pants pee time.)
apjenkins
Goodness gracious me!! this is truly incredible you are the bees knees in frog drawing and thats for sure positively brilliant !!
Steven Novak replied
I’ve never been called the bees knees before, which is a shame because I kind of like it. ;)
RMonroe
Incredible! If you did this all in one sitting, I’m surprised you didn’t have to call 911 to surgically remove the pencil from your hand(LOL). Very good work:)
Steven Novak replied
It was not one sitting, no, but maybe I should lie and say it was. ;)
Laurkat
Terrific detail here.
Steven Novak replied
Thanks…I suffer hand cramps to this day from the time spent drawing this thing. ;)
Crockpot
This is f’ing amazing!!
Steven Novak replied

I praise your hard work Steven this is incredible! But gosh have I ever experienced hard work that brought me no merit. Your story reminds me of a time about a year and a half ago I had a project worth 75% of the course, and I worked really hard on. I pulled two all nighters in a row near the deadline time that my whole body ached. I had a really good review so I thought it paid off until I saw the mark appear in my transcript (unfortunately the prof at my review was not present during the marking). I was shocked but being that design is subjective I thought maybe there was a reasonable reason for getting a lower mark than I expected and asked the head prof for the mark breakdown; which only made me more pissed off because it looked really ambiguous and even disagreed with the critters’ comments, and when I addressed that to the prof, he just ignored me. I’m still upset about it to this very day. This and some other things that happened that year made me realize how unfair reality was.
Steven Novak replied
The unfarities (which I don’t think is a word) of reality is a subject I could write a thesis on…thus, maybe it’s better that I don’t even get started. ;) Maybe we should TP the prof’s house? No? We could if you wanted. ;)
Mui-Ling Teh
hehe, it would have to wait til I come back to Canada – which is 8 months from now.

I’m English, so instead of peeing my pants I will be a gentleman and offer to allow you to pee yours first … well, it’s only polite isn’t it. Oh dear … I’m being distracted AGAIN by our dear little kitten who is pulling things from my computer desk onto the floor one by one. It’s spooky to see a notebook moving slowly away from me. Now where was I … oh yes … this is a brilliant drawing. I can think of a hundred reasons why your parents (and your long-suffering wife for that matter) would want to disown you, but not because of this fantastic drawing ;)
BLYTHART
Actually … I was looking for your self-portrait and thought I’d found it :P
