Too Much Time On My Hands
Back when I was interested in super detailed pencil renderings I pulled this drawing out of my butt. It’s insane. My eyes hurt by the time I was done with it. My friends looked at me weird and my parents said they no longer wanted me as their son. I was shunned by society as a whole once they realized the amount of time I must have spent hunched over my drawing table working on a drawing of a frog.
In fact, there’s SO much detail in this that if it doesn’t make you pee your underpants I’ll pee mine.
Either way someone is walking out of here bow-legged, stinky, and embarrassed.

thanks steven, those were clean pants!

Well I’ve got to say Steven you didn’t hold back on the detail, warts and all. When we were kids we thought handling frogs worked like a diaretic, only we used a different word. Your self-inflicted torture produced an amazing piece.

This isn’t just some frog Steven…. Look at him.. he is smart and observant… slow and careful with his movements … his eyes see all and he takes the time to see the beauty that surrounds him….. ..... hmmmmmmmmm sounds like the artist who created him :)
You certainly are no frog my friend but I think your work and talent is increduble !!!!! (((((HUG))))))

hey now…i think hours and hours spent on drawing a frog is time well spent…but that is coming from the crazy girl whose house is filled with froggy-goodness…..

Hey, to heck with your aching eyes. My sympathy goes to that poor frog as he held the pose that long.

clarkey, 2 months ago
The time was well spent – those who disowned you did themselves a huge disservice. This is brilliant, although, my sympathies to the froggy for having to stay still for that long. LOL I didn’t pee my pants, either, I’m a big girl, now!!!!

Let’s be honest, those were wet before you even looked at my frog drawing…you’re just using it as an excuse, aren’t you? ;)
Steven Novak in reply to Leslie Patton’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks Leslie! My fingers still hurt years after drawing this stupid thing. ;)

GREAT JOB STEVE
Steven Novak in reply to CATNIPMEOW’s comment, 2 months ago
The most impressive thing about it is that I had such a boring life around the time I made this that I had time to actually make it. Or wait…maybe that’s the opposite of impressive. ;)
Steven Novak in reply to cheetaah’s comment, 2 months ago
Maybe I should consider a career in medical illustration? ;)
Steven Novak in reply to hikickry’s comment, 2 months ago
Don’t worry, It’ll be our secret. ;)
Steven Novak in reply to Brian Towers’s comment, 2 months ago
Nope, I didn’t hold back. In fact, I think I added more detail than there was in my reference. Why I would want to do that, I don’t know. Glutton for punishment maybe? ;)
butchart, 2 months ago
you will never know the truth to that question….. EVER
Steven Novak in reply to Naylor’s comment, 2 months ago
Smart? Observant? Slow and careful? Seeing beauty? Hmmm…you got the slow part right, but that’s about it. ;) Seriously though, thanks Naylor.
Steven Novak in reply to vonne’s comment, 2 months ago
To quote you “Thanks so much Steven” Wait…I guess that doesn’t really work, does it? ;)
Steven Novak in reply to hahpistuff’s comment, 2 months ago
Mmmm… froggy goodness. ;)
Steven Novak in reply to Lynda (Lindy) Berlin’s comment, 2 months ago

Steven Novak in reply to elisab’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks Elisa! Yes…lots of work. Lots and lots and lots of work. ;)
Steven Novak in reply to Jennifer Woodward’s comment, 2 months ago

Steven Novak in reply to Jan Piller’s comment, 2 months ago
That’s a general rule of art in general, no? ;)
Steven Novak in reply to Walker Everette’s comment, 2 months ago
Not yet, no. But in time, yes. They will be our masters, and a harsh set of masters they will be. ;)
Steven Novak in reply to gypsycaster’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks! Your bows make my time, back aches, eye pains, and finger cramps well worth it. ;)
Steven Novak in reply to traceyanne’s comment, 2 months ago
Get out of here. If I could paint a wave as good as you I wouldn’t have to run through pencils drawing stupid frogs. ;)
Steven Novak in reply to clarkey’s comment, 2 months ago
No need to feel sympathy for the frog. He was well paid. (Who knew a frog would have an agent?) ;)

Alll “artists” have too much time on their hands… it is in fact a pre-requisite. Much like multiple personality defects and deep emotional issues/resentment with (insert your choice of relative here)
It is what makes us EXCEPTIONAL!! =))

Robin Monroe, 2 months ago
Incredible! If you did this all in one sitting, I’m surprised you didn’t have to call 911 to surgically remove the pencil from your hand(LOL). Very good work:)
