Sailing the Crazy Bed Boat Through Craziness. (Which is pretty crazy)

This is among the oldest things I’ve uploaded onto the site and because of that it looks a whole heck of a lot different than a lot of the work I’m doing these days. Also because of that there are some things I like about it, and a lot of things I don’t.

What’s it all about?

I dunno.

A kid, a shipwreck, an octopus, a bed, a turtle, a deserted island, a puppy, a weird muppet looking thing…

Maybe it’s a direct result of the head injury I had as a young man?

Sailing the Crazy Bed Boat Through Craziness. (Which is pretty crazy) belongs to the following groups:

Art and Stories Made For Children, Cutest of the Cute, Happy Haven, Humorous Illustrations, Humour Captured and Underwater & Sealife

This looks fun and adventurous. I wonder if you were to ask a bunch of kids to tell what they thought it was about? Could get some really interesting stories :)

Head injury would explain an awful lot :)) Only teasing you … you say there are a lot of things you don’t like about this … I can’t find anything to dislike about it. As artists, we nearly all have bad days and paintings that aren’t so good, but you seem to hit the target every time.

Have taken my cue from the description above and have just run head first into a closed door – hasn’t done too much in the talent or inspiration department yet, but I’m a patient boy…will let you know when the head injury has worked its magic.

Actually I had a bicycle accident as a kid that ripped open my head and required nothing short of about 400 stitches. WEE-HOO!! Glad you like the piece Charlotte! ;)

That’s how I tried to sell my remake of Bedknobs and Broomsticks to Miramax. Their response was, “Who’s Steven?” ;) Okay, that was a lie, but it was funny.

There is a really fantastic kids book called “The Mysteries of Harris Burdick” that sort of did that. Check it out if you’ve never seen it.

I told someone else that I’m not a big fan of the sky or the ocean. I liked them when I first painted them years ago but they haven’t stood the test of time for me. Also, I was big into incorporating markers back when I did this and honestly I just think they look…well…crappy…nowdays. Maybe in ten years I’ll like them again? ;)

hmmm. well i think Turner was always the best at clouds, but you did a great job with them. :) i don’t usually like my clouds much either, if it’s any consolation, except for the dark clouds of pollution that i paint. i like those. anyways, buck up camper, you did a good job :))

oh and if you’re wondering who turner is, i mean this guy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Turner%2C_J.M._W.-_The_Fighting_Téméraire_tugged_to_her_last_Berth_to_be_broken.jpg

  • Steven Novak

Steven Novak in reply to traceyanne’s comment, 6 months ago

Which came first, this or the movie? I’m claiming this. I understand that seems quite impossible because of the constants of time, but I say time be damned!! ;)

  • Steven Novak

Steven Novak in reply to darkestartist’s comment, 6 months ago

Buck up camper? Thanks kiddo, your the absolute tops! ;) Oh, and I am aware of turner, four years of art college and an amazing amount of loan debt saw to that. ;)

If this is what a head injury produces, then I’m all for it!!!! :-)) I love it, it’s a magical dream for a young boy, and nicely done. I love the silly grin on the puppy’s face!
