Artist's Description

Taken with a Nikon D60 at Gundagai, NSW, Australia. This is the famous Dog on the Tuckerbox, a memorial to a bushie story that goes along the lines of a Bullock team driver called Bill, who in the 1850’s had his wagons bogged down and had a terrible time getting the bullocks and wagons out of the mud., breaking the yoke on the bullocks and stopping all work. Upon his return to his campsite, nine or five miles from Gundagai, he found his dog sitting ( Or Worse ! ) on his Tuckerbox ( where he stored his lunch ) and his mates wrote a song ( the Dog sits on the Tuckerbox ) about his terrible time that day. They thought it was a great joke and so the story has been spread and turned into legend in Aussie folklore. This little memorial was unveiled by the then Prime Minister, Joseph Lyons, in November 1932, and has stood by the side of the Hume Highway near Gundagai ever since :)
