Hello You Little Art Monsters!
Welcome to my world!
Art is a passion. My Passion.
My past, present and definitely my Future.
Pop Art, Graphic Art, Conceptual Art, Print-Media, Fashion, Photography, Film, Theatre, Design & Production – The all encompassing world of artistic experimentation & creation.
I’m a total aficionado of all things creative, fabulous, glamorous & fun! Having recently finished a Bachelor of Theatre, majoring in Technical Design & Production I’m currently based in Brisbane, where I’ve been building up my portfolio and experiences (My continually growing portfolio includes previously painted pieces purpose-painted for charity auctions (for the Fred Hollows & Australian Cancer Foundations) as well as many commissioned pieces for local businesses & residents in the Mackay & Townsville regions. Several pieces have also been exhibited in local Mackay galleries – Artspace Mackay & The Whitsunday Anglican Arts Centre.) And now… it is time to unleash myself & my work into the world!!!
The name “Gart” was coined many years ago. Christened to me in the school yard as a nickname, it followed me to university and flourished from a friendly epithet into an artistic signature and potential branding tool. So, when you see “gArt.” you’ll be able to recognise “Gareth’s Art.”
I began STUDIO gArt with the notions that “Art is what you can get away with” & “An artistic creates something people don’t need.” (Both Andy Warhol sentiments.) However, it has grown into something more than that. What started as an infatuation with all things Factory turned into a love affair fuelled by artistic passions. Motivated by Art, Sculpted by Pop Culture & Fractured by Design – STUDIO gArt was born…
The easiest way i can describe the new direction i want to take my personal work is this: “Hunter S. Thompson, Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol & Edie Sedgewick drinking LSD laced tea at the Mad-Hatter’s tea party… in Time’s Square NYC…” Its colourful, eclectic, vivacious and fun. It celebrates the famous, the infamous, the glamourous, the irreverent & the irrelevant.
Its Pop Art without descending into the manufactured and tells my stories without exploding with an inaccessible social commentary. My Key areas of interest are painting & drawing, installation and Print-Media. Fashion/costume design, Set & interior design and Photography also inspire my heavily; and impact greatly within my work.
Hope you Enjoy my World.
