    Amazing macro work Peter!!!!

  • Peter Martin replied

Thanks Sharon – i luv bees – but i never realised until now they have petite little white necks and the sockets that their antennae attach to are white.. ?? how sweet is that!! :)

I noticed the white necks too Peter, it looked like their heads detached only hanging on by the internal white tubing :-) quite fascinating. Nicely captured.

  • Peter Martin replied

they are quite amazing things, aren’t they. and they don’t sting – maybe they like the publicity??

I’m hopeless with insect shots (keep trying, but the little rotters don’t stay still long enough for me!!!!)
    Great macro Peter!!

  • Peter Martin replied

(of course (and don’t tell anyone) I am cheating big-time – 150mm 1:1 + 2x teleconverter + 25mm tube + flash + chair) but you’re right, the number of times I’ve got everything ready then… hey where’d it go? (but bees are good – very short short-term memory – in a little while, if you wait, they come back and try to milk the same one again.. and again. :)

Stunning macro Peter. The details ar so clear and sharp. You can even make out the little tears in the bee’s wings.

  • Peter Martin replied

    Thanks Kylie 8-)

Really beautiful macro Peter! What settings did you use to capture this one?

  • Peter Martin replied

    F/16, 1/250secs, ISO-200, 300mm, hand held with Flash

(note the F/16 is really only F/8, but the teleconverter’s electrics double the aperture info coming from the lens to the camera)

  • Peter Martin replied

the 300mm combo has a maximum F of F/45, so F/16 is way below half way

  • Peter Martin replied

PS: am looking forward to seeing your Byron photos!! :)
