Gentle Dawn

Gentle Dawn by Stuart Chapman

Gentle Dawn

May 2008

Kingsdown, Kent, England

Normally I wait for people to move out my shot to leave my shots fairly unemotive and let nature speak for itself. But i’m not going to hang around for a ferry waiting to go into Dover Port to up anchor and move away!

The ferry adds perspective and distance Stuart, and if you had waited, you most certainly wouldnt have the depth of colour. I think this is wonderful for its simplicity, and the glow on the rocks is so subtle.

I like the ferry, think it adds an extra element. Love those colours in the sky and water, imagine how it must have looked to the people on the boat!

I love the ferry’s silhouette – adds to the beautiful scene Stuart.

Great work and yep the ferry definately adds to the shot.. without explanation it could almost be taken for a small desert island! Now that would bring a new spin to Dover! haha! Anyway, lovely colour in this and the composition is spot on..

    Must agree with Graeme Stuart.

It also shows how small we are, on this planet.

I like the ferry too Stuart – it makes me want to jump aboard and sail away into the sunset (or sunrise) – this is gorgeous, it has a great sense of scale and that favourite thing of me – a feeling of escapism.

I think this wouldn’t have been the same without the ship. It adds tremendously to the composition. A stunning view, gorgeous colours.
