My name is Sara Jean and I’m a Melbourne, Australia-based illustrator/designer. I’ve been doing this for 6 years now but only the last three have been in a semi-commerical way (i.e. selling stuff!). I actually began my creative adventures making imitation jewellery by remodelling toys and other plastics into ‘wearable fashion’; earrings, bracelets and necklaces.

I’ve always been creative. I love creating little creatures; they float around in my head so it makes sense to make them come to life by putting them down on paper. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a design develop and then seeing people enjoy it and share my enthusiasm for it!
My inspirations are drawn from the cartoon world…the old skool stuff, stuff I loved as a kid; Golden Books, Warner Brothers (not Disney…too cute for my liking) Mattel and Hasbro characters from the eighties such as She-Ra, Rainbow Brite etc…and Japanese Manga. I’m also inspired by tattoo artists such asAngelique Houtkamp and Sailor Jerry and gothic cartoon artists such as Roman Dirge.
