I love taking photographs, I don’t like “setting up” photographs. This means that I am not very good at portrait photography, I just don’t have the patience, skill or desire for it.

I do however enjoy looking for a perfect photo. I always have one of my cameras with me at all times and I’m always looking around and framing up what I see in my mind, if I like it then I shoot it. But, my best work doesn’t come straight off the sensor, or the negative.

I my personal opinion, I think cameras take pretty “dull” images. I have heard many photographers say that the “best” photographers don’t need to enhance their images. I say that is “BS”. Even Ansel Adams spent countless hours dodging and burning his negatives in his darkroom. I spend my countless hours in Photoshop dodging and burning my images to get what I envisioned from the scene that I framed in-mind.

I’m the type of photographer that might get one “keeper” per every hundred that I shoot, and one “winner” for every thousand. That doesn’t mean that the other nine hundred and ninety-nine are necessarily bad, it just means that “one” is the one that I like best and I’m willing to show it off.

I’ve been asked out of all that I have shot, which are my favorites. That’s a hard question for any photographer, but I think any image that I shoot that speaks emotion and tells the entire story are the winners. For me, that “one” photographer is a b/w image that is in my portfolio of a rose and a cross made from twigs that I saw tied to the fence that surrounds the Oklahoma Bombing Memorial. I believe that one image tells the story. There is a reason for that cross and rose to be there, tied to a fence. And, there is a several reasons why it was tied to that fence. Emotion speaks volumes.

I shot editorials for several newspapers in the Great Plains that I moonlighted at while developing my photography skills. But mostly, my photographs are related to severe weather, after all I am a storm chaser!

If you like these images, I have more on my website. And, you can read my storm chasing logs at: www.violentskiestours.com.

Thanks for looking!
