A solar powered boat visiting Brisbane.

It was moored near the Riverside Centre in the Brisbane CBD.

This photo was taken using my compact digital camera.

My practical painting tutors include people from the Flying Art School (1978 to 1981), the Studio West End (2004 to 2010) and the Brisbane Institute of Art (2008 to 2011).

I began printmaking in 2004 at the Studio West End, then started again there in 2006.I have done it constantly since 2006 at either the Studio West End or the Brisbane Institute of Art.

Darkroom techniques were obtained from the Brisbane Institute of Art beginning in 2009.

What a great design, does it have propellers at the rear of the pontoons?

  • I have no idea. It is just a boat I saw in Brisbane last year and took some photos.

I don’t know anything else about it. I didn’t think to take another photo of the rear view. The only other photo I have of it is from above, but a much wider angle than the one I have already put up with it seen from above. I’ll put the other one on RB eventually – but have been having major problems with no internet connection for most of today.

You may be able to find it on the internet as I suppose they are trying to sell it.

Sensational capture … State of the Art stuff … Wow

  • Thank you. I thought it was an opportunity too good to miss to get a shot of something that is really new. I think it was on a publicity type of voyage at the time and I had seen it featured on TV’s local news before I saw it moored in the river.

This is indeed an oddity from many perspectives, and could well be the nautical wonder it looks to be. This is a website (looks like it started in 1999/ updated in 2007) dedicated to solar boats but this one you’ve captured looks to be more than simple prototypes of years past. Great shot.

  • Thank you.

The boat in my photo was sailing around the world (I think).

I saw pictures of it on TV sailing in the ocean as it moved towards Brisbane. It only stayed moored on the river for a couple of days and then moved on. I got the impression it was on a voyage of showing off its technology and capabilities to people.
