Ingleborough from Scales Moor
The second part of the name Ingleborough is derived from the Old English word burh, meaning “fort on the hill”. On the top of Ingleborough the remains of an old walled enclosure has been discovered inside which foundations of Iron Age huts have been found.Ingleborough is situated in the south-western corner of the Yorkshire Dales, being at the highest point of a large triangle of land with corners at Ingleton, Ribblehead and Settle.
