This is great Steve! Whe I was there, there was aerial combat between park Wedgies and territorial Wedgies, do they still have that display? It really was awsome to see the speed that the Wedgies from the Ranges would rocket down and how the park wedgies would turn upside down to ward off the attack in mid flight.
Alas I was not good enough to capture said drama on film.
Steven Pearce replied
Na they had to stop the Wedgies because one of the park birds got attacked, just before Christmas one of the parks Black Breasted Buzzards was also attacked… nasty buggers those wedgies.
The wedgies out of town are coming back finally, I saw a pair and two single birds establishing territories on the last tour so it could be good in the near future.
I’m lucky to have this in town because I can go and practice twice a day if I wanted to.
Neil Boucher
I see you are using the 2x TC on the 70-200. So much for those who say it’s not much chop!
Steven Pearce replied
If your serious it aint got much chop, see I’m using f/11, the lens begins to look nice at 100% around there with detailed feathers. The ISO 800 in the middle of the day is a result of that… sux to use an ISO that high in the middle of the day, but the 5D MKII makes it look pretty good.
I would rather dump the 2.0x and upgrade to a 400 f/5.6L USM. Couldn’t get the 100-400 f/5.6L Push Pull because it would fill up with dust. The desert hates cameras.

Hard to criticize any of this series Steve well done.
Geoff Coleman...
Now this is just stunning – the sharpness and clarity really accentuates the feel of the battle and how very obliging of them to give you front and lateral profiles – just a brilliant capture.
