On this day, the 29th of April 1770 Lt James Cook set foot on Australian soil for the first time at Kurnell, NSW.
Lt Cook was an explorer not a conquerer.
He tried to engage with the local Aboriginal tribe but things didn’t go to well. After a brief exchange of spears and gun fire both parties pretty much ignored each other and went about there ways.
Lt Cook continued to try to engage the locals but it was to no avail. There were moments when the local men would approach and then back off again.
Cook was on an expedition of exploration and not one of colonisation, he wanted to engage with the locals, the land and the sea.
Cook is one of the greatest explorers of all time.
