Hopeful?

*WILD AND FREE *

To spend an hour with Mountain Gorillas is one of the best wildlife experiences you can ever hope for. They captivate you with their eyes and you become lost in the moment. Your time with them goes so fast you are left just wanting more…

Unfortunately, Mountain Gorilla numbers are small, with only approximately 700 left in the wild. The primary threat comes from forest clearance and degradation, as the region’s growing human population struggles to eke out a living.

I am hopeful ways can be found to control these problems before it is too late.

Wow Steve – everything I expected, and more. A superb image, just superb. What an expression you have caught on this one. As your description tells, it is very sad that the numbers of these wonderful animals had dropped to such a low level. Unfortunately, as you say, the human population struggle to survive as well, and its so easy for people to just say dont do it when families struggle for an existence. Alternative livelihoods must be brought to play if anything is to be done to save these magnificent creatures.

Brilliant shot Steve! It has always been a dream of mine to experience something like you have. Once I wrestled with a small orphaned mountain gorilla or more like he wrestled with me, he was very gentle. It was in a safari base camp in Equatorial Guinea, unfortunately on my three day jungle safari, just me and the guide, we only saw gorilla sign and never them. Since then I have dreamed of the day of getting a shot like yours. Great work…

Even suffering from malaria and not eating or drinking for 3 days, seeing these gorilla’s in Rwanda was an amazing experience. I’m going to have to go back to enjoy them without being half delerious. They are amazing aren’t they.
