Just in time for Father’s Day 2010, I drew this drawing of my late father, Marek Brandon, who died on June 5th, relaxing on the living room sofa, listening to a Grundig shortwave radio, with my cat, Ember, lying on top of the backrest.
This drawing is based on <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/steve-brandon/2844... photo I took in October 2006</a>.
This was a 2-day quicky job I made to display at my father’s funeral on Wednesday, June 16th, so it’s not nearly as detailed or as precise as my usual automobile drawings. The wall in my living room isn’t nearly as beige in real life, but I wanted a warm, cozy colour palette (which actually reminds me of the colours found in a pack of Wild Berry Skittles, though that wasn’t my intend). It’s also more freehand than I usually draw, though you can still see some of the measured construction lines.
The drawing is 12" by 9" on a sheet of 14" by 11" sketchbook paper, so I opted to have it professionally scanned at Staples.
