the High Dike (de Hoge Dijk) – collection
Amsterdam-Abcoude, the Netherlands
The “High Dike” (de Hoge Dijk)
is a natural area in the South of Amsterdam SouthEast, adjacent to Abcoude .
There are large water parts and lots of reed lands and low bushes, and wooded area’s.
Just like the Reed Corner (Riethoek) it’s a very precious natural ecosystem close to the highly populated neighbourhoods of Amsterdam SouthEast.
Vegetation of reeds, grasses and herbs is very rich and varied in this area.
Red Clover (Wikipedia – Dutch: Rode klaver ) , – yes, I know, it’s actually pink ;) – is a very common meadow flower in Western Europe. It is widely grown as a fodder crop, valued for its nitrogen fixation, which increases soil fertility. For these reasons it is used as a green manure crop.
It has also been reported that red clover has been used for a variety of medicinal purposes, such as bronchitis, burns, cancers, ulcers, sedation, asthma, and syphilis.
It is the national flower of Denmark and the state flower of Vermont.
Because of the beauty shown in this picture:
SAFE and PROTECT our woods and natural places!
Support and active participation in nature organisations that preserve and maintain hay lands helps protect the natural diversity.
