Challenge results, and something a little special...
Wow, I have a lot of things in challenges lately! The stars must be aligned, because I usually don’t have time to make new art just for challenges unless it’s something I was already planning to do anyway so I usually have to search my archives both on RB and offline for something that applies.
A hastily modded version of my Fox and the Grapes image came in second place in the awesome International Superstars of Illustration group’s challenge Judge a book by its cover. Congratulations to the winner, Sturstein, whose Frankentstein cover was so amazing I’m going to link it here but please go to his page to check it out:
The Country Mouse and the City Mouse placed third in the Animal Fantasy and Whimsy group’s Thanksgiving Animals challenge. — thanks for the votes and congratulations to the winner Colleen!
The Dragon of Autumn was featured in the Finks of Inks group after placing fourth in The Word: Autumn Challenge against some very good competition. Thanks to all those who voted, and congratulations to the winner katpix and all the other winners.
I’m so happy with the way this artwork turned out that I’ve created this animation, which steps through the stage that took it from a simple ink drawing to full color. The steps are detailed on my blog, but I should be able to link the animated GIF right here:

Happy RedBubbling, everyone!

Aww, shucks. Thanks for the plug, Steph! And congrats on all your challenge placings.
I can never keep up with all the challenges; I guess there are just too many cool groups to be part of.
I really dig your animation. That’s a neat way of showing your process :D

Thanks! I saw someone else do it that way and thought it would be neat to try my own. :)
And yeah, I want to participate in more challenges but I have to weigh my time carefully these days, so if one matches up and I happen to have work already, I go for it. Otherwise….
(I want to do more quicky drawings tho… but I have to finish my website first!)
Sturstein
I’m always planning to do more quick drawings, because I’m too much of a perfectionist, and I tend to labour over pieces, killing the energy.

oh, me too! Last year I tried doing Illustration Friday every week and I kept getting in over my head trying to do my usual huge detailed images, lol! It was good practice tho, I want to do more stuff like that to force myself to keep it simple sometimes.
Sturstein
I think I signed up for Illustration Friday ages ago, but that was as far as I got :P
I keep promising myself I’ll commit to the Drawing Board jams, but it never lasts. For now I’m content to just follow RB challenges :)
