Two Crafty Ways to Become a High Profile Photographer

Skellie has written a great article over at FreeLanceSwitch.com that outlines 12 incredibly crafty ways to become a high-profile freelancer . It’s a great list of interesting ways to find yourself heading up the ladder of success with just a little bit of effort. But the two that took my interest relate to the photographer in me:

Photographers

7. Offer to take free photos for a well-known blog or website. Popular blogs and websites tend to use stock photography or images from Flickr, but I’ve little doubt that they’d enjoy a source of custom free photos tailored to each post or category. Even if you only provide them for a week, you can still add the blog to your list of clients.

8. Start a photo-blog with the aim of getting a large following. A popular blog focusing on your photography will add considerable value to your freelancing profile. It shows potential clients that your work is popular with a wide variety of people.

Well, that is most definitely a great set of ideas! Anyone already doing either of these ideas? Feel free to leave a message telling us all about your photo-blog.

7 sounds like a good idea but I think that unless you were able to provide top notch photographs day in day out people would lose interest so #8 would be quite hard work for most (seeing as its more a hobby for 95% of people). Its much like any internet forum, if there arnt may people posting then people stop visiting.

[7.] Very true Mick, but that’s not going to stop people from trying. And the least we can do is try to be is better.

[8.] Yet most of the top photo-blogs or forums had to start somewhere. I know of one interesting photo-blog that only started recently, but who knows where or how popular it will be in a years time.

Not very high-tech but I have a lot of my work up on Facebook and Bebo and between my mates, models I work with and Mafia Wars :) I have made many new contacts and potential clients, some already are. Either buying a photo session or the work I’ve had made through Bubble. Rolling in it. Not even, but it is starting to have a domino effect.

Cathleen, sounds like the ball is rolling for you. I’ll be sure to check out your work!
