May MeetUp
UPCOMING: Adelaide Photographers MeetUp
About five weeks ago half-a-dozen Adelaide photographers converged on the Adelaide Zoo for a day of networking, social chitchat and LOTs of photography.
This time I’m organising a “City-Walk” where we walk, talk and shoot architecture and objects. Here is the area of the city I’d be interesting in walking.. Yes, this is a large area! I happily walk around ALL day, photographing people, architecture and oddities.
DID YOU COME TO SEE THE LIST OF ATTENDEES? You can view it here . Moved for easy-viewing.
EDIT: 11:29 PM 17/05/2009
Big thanks to everyone who has responded and is interested: The date has been decided: 31st May
Here is the plan for the day:
Between 11.00am-12.00noon – Meet at Rotunda on Elder Park.
We all know it, surely. Early arrivals can scope out a good place to watch everyone arriving and get their portrait shots! (I’ll be there at 11.00am!)
12noon – 12.45pm
Walk up KW Road to North Terrace, turning right at Parliament House down toward the Casino/Train Station. Quick visit into the atrium to photograph. It is permitted, I’ve done this on Flickr-group meetups. Continue down North Terrace to the Morphett Road Bridge.
12.45pm – 4.00pm
OPTION 1:
We turn right, crossing the bridge, walking all the way to War Memorial Drive. Those that wish to can take the stairs (just beyond the river that takes you) down to the Torrens … and we all meetup just in front of the Tennis Stadium (or thereabouts). We walk and photograph the length of War Memorial Drive, back across the bridge at KW Road, back to the Rotunda. We then walk up KW Street. From here, read from where option #2 is underlined.
OPTION 2.
Just before the bridge, we cross over to photograph the historic Church. (You’ll know it when you get there!) We then walk up Morphet Street, turn LEFT into Hindley Street and we walk and photograph interesting sites along the way. There are few interesting locations behind buildings, (particularly those toy-cars stuck to the wall in Rosina Street) that we can detour to see.
When we reach KW Street, we cross over to Rundle Mall to go shoot the Brass Pigs and the Silver Balls! At Pultney Street, we turn left; At North Terrace, we turn left (Some may choose to cross the road).
Photographing historic limestone architecture along the way, we head back to the KW Road intersection, taking the pedestrian lights over to Government House. Here I can show you some interesting facts that I discovered a few years back that is not-overly-publicised!
We then cross the road to Parliament House, and walk back to the Rotunda
Wait, wait, you want food and drinks: At some point in Hindley Street or Rundle Mall we find a nice coffee shop!
Considering all the chatting and stopping that normally occurs with these events, this will surely fill the afternoon.
If anyone knows of any events happening in the CBD that are happening the same weekend, tell us about it now so we can jostle it into the timeline.
EXTRA (courtesy of Michael Tapping)
Government House and Grounds are open to the Public on Sunday 31st May between 10.00 AM and 4.00PM
We’ll go there from the Rotunda before moving into the CBD. This may take some time!

Hi Stephen
Both my husband & I are pretty keen to attend the walk. I do use a motorised wheelchair however tend not to find it a problem in getting about. If by chance there was a non accessible part to the walk – we would be happy to bypass that section. We would prefer the 31st of May? If not we can put our name in the hat for the next meet up. A great idea – thank you for the post.
Naomi & Paul (NAPaul)
Stephen Mitchell
Naomi, I’d love for you to attend! Most of the walk is on bituminous paths, so I forsee no problem for you at all!
The 31st works for me also. I look forward to seeing the response of other Adelaide photographers. I will post this on Flickr also so we can meet a full range of Adelaide photographers.

Excellent news Stephen, sounds great!! Looking forward to meeting up with other keen like minded snappers. :-)

Andre and I are interested. Love city walks :D
We can make any weekend at this stage, except early afternoons on Saturdays.
Marion Cullen
Geaoff and I would love to come…well, I would anyway. I’m easy with what weekend or day at this stage.

Stephen … Naomi alerted me. Great idea. Unfortunately have commitments with babysitting the weekend 30 and 31 May. But very disappointed and would love to go on another occasion. Judy McK
Julia Thomas
Don’t make it the 24th of May all Adelaidians should be attending my exhibition opening lol so the 31st sounds good to me :)
Adam StJohn
Very new to Photography & this group.
So I’d be very keen to attend any of the planned weekends.
Looking forward to it.. if you’d have me.
Stephen Mitchell
Hello Janet, Marion, Judy, Julia and Adam, thanks for your input.
31st sounds like most popular.
I will see if we get any more responses before this coming Friday; Then will finalise meetup-location in City.
Looking forward to meeting you all, some for the first time, some for the 2nd or 3rd time!
PS. Bring tripods.
Danielle Bailey
A saturday sounds better for me but I’ll have to make sure that my hubby is happy to look after our daughter all day
Stephen Mitchell replied
So there is no way the 31st could work for you?
Caroline Lloyd
I’d like to attend – second weekend better for me – in NSW during first one!
Stephen Mitchell replied
Be good to get a new face there! The second weekend seems to be the consensus so far. Keep an eye on this entry to see what we decide upon.
georgiegirl
A day wandering around pointing, clicking and chatting… the 31st works for me!! As long as we stop for things like coffee now and then!!!
Stephen Mitchell replied
Most definitely, coffee and cake in Rundle Street sounds like a good idea!
Michael Tapping
Works for Pat and Myself also. Let us know time and place. Sunday 31st May OK Cheers, Michael Tapping / (Wotzisname)
Stephen Mitchell replied
Thanks Michael (and Pat!). Sunday seems to be the consensus. Will wait until this Friday (15th May) before going to next stage of meetup-location. Needless to say, it will be somewhere within the map linked in original article.
Danielle Bailey
Sunday’s aren’t good for me at all because I have church committments.
Stephen Mitchell replied
Hello Danielle, that is good and valid reasoning! At this stage Sunday seems to the more popular day. So unless something changes dramatically, we may not be seeing you on this occasion. We’ll be sure to organise the following month’s meetup on a Saturday!
AlexMac
I should be able to make it, will be nice to meet up with everyone again
Stephen Mitchell replied
On the 31st?
AlexMac
31st is good for me
Crowmanic
Got my interest… how early to how late? re dawn/dusk, just curious. during day Ok.
Stephen Mitchell replied
Crowmanic, I’ll edit the original article shortly to suggest an itinerary for the day.
Danielle Bailey
Well, now I’m probably going to the footy straight after church on the 31st, so turns out I wouldn’t have been able to come anyway.
Stephen Mitchell replied
That’s a shame Danielle. Photo’s of the footy-field or it didn’t happen!
Crowmanic
Look forward to the final suggestions… and learning some stuff from the “pros’ amongst the locals.
Julia Thomas
Oh crap just realised I’m required at the gallery at 2pm on the 31st for a ‘Meet the Artist’ gallery date. Looking forward to doing a meet up though so let me know when the next one is planned :)
Stephen Mitchell replied
That’s cool Julia! That is most fortunate for you and unfortunate for us. I’ll set up a diary in the forum’s to ensure all future MeetUps are given fair warning!
John Mitchell
Sorry, Stephen. Can’t make the 31st. Will be in Hongkong taking photos!!!!!
Stephen Mitchell replied
John, I had a million responses here, but this one seems most apt: “Pictures or it never happened!” Hope you have fun you lucky so-n-so, we look forward to seeing the results!
reflexio
Sorry, have a 6 week old baby….. don’t have the time at the moment.
Stephen Mitchell replied
Dude, I wouldn’t be going either if I had a six week old baby! Hope you and the missus are enjoying sleepless nights, stinky nappies and tonnes of photographs of the newborne! We’ll see you another time I hope!
Adam StJohn
All sounds good too me..
Bring bucket loads of advice.. I need it.
Cheers
Stephen Mitchell replied
Adam, cool. See you at the Rotunda!
Princessbren2006
might be able to make it not sure yet
Stephen Mitchell replied
Brenda, I do hope to see you there. It will be great to get a few representatives from SACentral !
Steve Chapple
Sorry can’t make it down for this one but will get there ONE DAY!!!!!
Stephen Mitchell replied
Steve, that’s cool. The drive from Millicent for one day is hardly worth it. As said, I’ll be setting up a calander of future meetups in the Redbubble Forums (which hopefully will be displayed upon the PW’s site) so you’ll know when to pack your bags!
Rob Beckett
Hi Stephen I may be able to get there on the 31st haven’t done that for years Cheers
Stephen Mitchell replied
Hello Rob, it would be our pleasure to have you come along. Bring all six kids if you want’!

Stephen Mitchell replied

Ersu Yuceturk

Stephen Mitchell replied

You are right, we should all bring wet-weather gear for ourselves and cameras.
Jacqueline Ste...
Would be interested in the 31st May, but I’m not sure about my if I’ll be able to organise a babysitter though.
Stephen Mitchell replied
Jacqueline, it would be great to see you there, but understand.
Frank Falco
I am intending to come, it will be my first time too. I have also let a couple of other bubblers know.
Stephen Mitchell replied
Excellent Frank, be good to see you! Can you make sure those other bubblers respond here? ... I am keeping a list of names (which I am editing right now!) to give out labels on the day.
Belinda Leopold
Sorry kids! Too busy!!! :S
I’ll be there in spirit though ;D
Stephen Mitchell replied
That’s a shame Belinda, yet understandable. Next time!
Adam StJohn
Steve..
My wife Sarah, may wander around with us.. if ok.
Stephen Mitchell replied
Just as long as she brings a camera …. KIDDING! Definitely OK for wives to attend. That way they can understand our obsession!
Robyn Taylor
Hello Stephen. I used to live in Adelaide, and only just moved to Sydney 18mnths ago. Frank Falco has told me about the day, because I will be visiting Adelaide at that time. Is it alright if I come too? I think it would be fun. I am a bubbler, obviously!
