Selective Layering

No, this is not sponge cake in a trifle, this is the art of making one area of a photograph retain it’s original colour whilst the rest is desaturated (converted to greyscale). If that all sounds like gobblygook, it did to me at first. Now it just rolls off the tongue.
And I only taught myself this technique this afternoon (10th Oct 2007)

Here are a few images I’ve created so far:

They the correct dimensions for printing as a card, laminated or framed image, because I know you’ll want to purchase them ...right?

Selective colouring or colour popping as it’s also known is very addictive, and it’s my new hobby too! Love what you have been doing so far!!

Hello Deborah. Yes, very addictive, but as a friend said last night, ‘I’ll always return to my first passion: photography.
I enjoy using this technique as a tool for some work, but not all. And besides, it’s very time-consuming!

Hey Heather, yes, it’s enjoyable when the results are successful! I’m redoing a piece that was too dark initially, therefore having to learn more features of GIMP to re-attempt. (No Help.doc installed, so this is both long and interesting)

Hello Scraggy, Here are a multitude of sites that teach selective layering using GIMP
