Read my previous post regarding image manipulation and camera-choice .
Thanks to a few commentors on the article for their honest opinions, I have completely changed my mind on the value of post-manipulation on photographs. A few words and sentences have been amended, adjusted and completely replaced.
I’ve used the DASH to strike-through a few words rather than deleting them. Thus showing why it’s an text-attribute worth keeping.

Hey Stephen,
Welcome to the other side. ;) Just kidding with ya.
Glad you said what you did originally. There is no shame in that. Sometimes our personal beliefs are based off of own biases and somewhat limited amount of exposure on it. I commend you to being open to other perspectives regardless of whether it strengthens or changes your opinion.
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks David, I had hoped you would leave a comment here, just to confirm that my writings were noticed by the people giving the best advice.
The other side is slightly warmer, but the seats have extra padding. When do I get to meet Obi Wan? In all seriousness, thank you for showing me where my thinking was a little skewiff! Ok, ok, so I was waaay out! Life would be awfully boring if we traveled down the same path our whole lives!
I hope you have some thoughts on my more recent article . I might step on a few more toes, but also open a few minds. Gawd, I hope so. Some might call me the Devil’s advocate, but I prefer to see myself as a Reality Checker .

Have just read through all the posts – personally I think of photoshop as my digital darkroom. People have been adjusting contrast, dodging and burning, modifying paper, tone, grain, etc etc since photography began. Post processing (darkroom or digital) is part of the art. The skill is knowing what work needs to be done. And when to stop! That’s the hard part!
Yes…get it right in camera, then learn how to process it properly. Either that or just send everything off to a mini lab to print and forget about creative control…
I shoot with a 400d too – it’s my baby. I’ve beaten the crap out of it and it’s still going. Just need better lenses :)

I agree now Sara! I’ve got the photo-editing (and flu) bug bad at the moment. Although I don’t have Photoshop (yet), I am learning the ropes with GIMP, a freeware opensource program. It’s very interesting discovering that nothing is impossible anymore!
