Chair in Sepia

Stephen Mitchell

Chair in Sepia

Once upon this was a dining chair – but now it spends long days outside the back fly-screen door – dried and cracked.
...
The “FIL” sits upon it to pull boots on in morning.
...
All day the chair sits, unmoving, uncaring, withstanding the sun.
...
He sits down at night to wrench boots off.
...
All night the chair stays, tolerating possums, ignoring the dog, withstanding the dew.
...
This chair has done well thus far.

gorgeous, old furniture is at its most charming when it is about to fall apart… the artistic chaos of natures decay.

Love this – the warm texture and the sense of time it evokes.

    Thank you @kathleen and @Paul.

@Paul, I understand you work with RedBubble. Your assistance please:
If you look closely at the image above, you’ll notice that the edging of the woodwork in the rectangular gap (created by the leg, rung, and chair base) is distorted. Would this be from the compression of the image for the purpose of display here. When I view it on my PC the detail is incredible, but the image above seems to have ‘hair’ around that area. Your views on the issue?

    Thanks TBO, you’re so right!
It’s moody, it’s lived out its years and it shows in the ripped seat and aged woodwork. It almost looks like it walked straight out to the camera and said ‘Go on, shoot me, I dare ya!’
I remember taking several shots … but this one is still my favourite! I’m happy you’ve also added to your favourite-list!
