Austin A70 Hampshire Ute , Portrait
This Austin A70 is a permanent feature amongst the gum-trees on my father-in-law’s top paddock. You can tell how long it’s been sitting there by the branches growing in, around and over its body!

hehe, i like how you’ve called this a portrait. these are a very cool series…. it seems she’s smiling and winking here, after all these years – i hope your father-in-law never gets rid of it!!
Stephen Mitchell replied
Thanks thickblackoutline, much appreciated for the comment. I don’t foresee my FIL ever removing the cars: He plans to remain on the property for another 20 years.
PS. In the background is a black Zephyr. All his cars have been literally ‘put out to pasture’, out here under the trees, for the past forty years.
FireRabbit
Awesome photo! There’s just so much personality with the car! Love the composition too!
Stephen Mitchell
Thanks FireRabbit, your comment is much appreciated.

Nice photograph, BTW the forground car 1950’s Austin A 40 Devon :)
Liz Spittall
Nice shot, like the way it’s framed by the tree.
Stephen Mitchell
Michael ... Titles amended accordingly. Thanks for the information!
Liz ... Thank you. Yes, the old branches of the tree help show the age and enhance the time and space.
Roslyn Slater
This takes me back to my childhood when I was driven around in an Austin A40. Great capture.
Craig Hender
Good capture, well done.
Stephen Mitchell
Hello Roslyn, I was at a family event today where someone said exactly the same thing! Thanks for your comment.
Hey Craig, thank you.

Stephen Mitchell
Hello and thank you Eramophla, ScreamQueen and Peter!
ragman
Excellent capture and POV ~ tell us where it is, and I’ll come and rescue it
Stephen Mitchell replied
Ragman, thanks for the comment. Oh no, you cannot rescue this car, I like it just the way it is!! There’s nothing more interesting than having at least one car slowly rusting away in the paddock! This has been sitting in the same location for around forty years!
Cathie Tranent
Wow Stephen – this is cool!
Friends of ours on the island had an old Dodge, its gone now …. will have to dig up the shot and scan it in!!
Karri Klawiter
Very nicely done!

Glenn Alderson
Love this image, great comp. Well Done! love to see what it looks like in 20yrs time.
rictopus
This is NOT an A40 its a MUCH RARER A70 HAMPSHIRE pickup or ute, worth saving, it uses the 2.2 Austin 16 or Hereford Engine, even an Atlantic engine can fit. Great Atmospheric photo
Stephen Mitchell replied
Thank you Rictopus. Name confirmed and changed accordingly!
blurtsmum
i really like this. I’m hoping to do some 3d work with cars and pickups and this is the sort of pics I’d love to make—I have another similar photo – also wonderful in my favourites. K
Stephen Thomas
Great photo of this fine looking car!
Stephen Mitchell replied
Thanks Stephen.

JimFilmer
and looks like a good ole Zephyr Mk3 in the background too… great shot Steve
Stephen Mitchell replied
You are correct Jim! I have reliably informed that it is a Zephyr in the background.
Both of these vehicles were previously owned by my Father-in-Law. In the tradition of many Australian farmers, both vehicles were parked under the trees back when he first purchased the property. I located them out there 10years ago and they’d already accumulated 40years of weathering. Now that my in-laws have sold the property, these vehicles are destined to rust to the ground.
Mleahy
it’s a really great shot- there’s a group called Unwanted , Abandoned & Worth Saving that you might want to check out.
Stephen Mitchell replied
Thanks MLeahy. I’ll check out the group
