1991. oil on canvas 200cm x 140cm
My biggest painting was a challenge to keep me busy after leaving art school. It depicts the scene of people fleeing by foot or across seas to find a safe place to stay. Its a trauma that millions suffer every year, be it through war, politics or natural disasters. I give my heart and hope to all refugees.

Done before the digital age came to me, sadly I have no quality print of this large canvas. I sold it to an architect from Italy who saw it in my exhibition in Edinburgh. Last I heard it lives in Naples. I was proud to sell my most accomplished ‘block sculpture’ painting to someone who knew a bit about buildings and scale…
Light is everything but imagination and light is an artist.

The architect knew a masterpiece when he saw it.

  • Its a big painting, six feet wide, and I still feel pride when I see it. Thankyou for your lovely comment Frannie. Its great to hear what people think of it years later. One day I will visit my Italian customer and see it again!! That will be a good night!! Somewhere in the Naples area. I wish it was in a gallery somewhere but it is definatly in a good home…..

I agree with vickymount. What an original concept! and I love the impressionist background depth combined with the cubist subjects.
