Artist's Description

Barton Arcade is located on Deansgate, Manchester and was built in 1871, by Corbett, Raby & Sawyer. It is a beautiful Victorian structure of iron and glass with three tiers of balconies with ornamental balustrades curving around the U-shaped arcade.

It is a gorgeous glass and iron shopping arcade with two octagonal domes rising from glass pendentives, probably the best example of this type of cast-iron and glass-roofed arcade anywhere in the country.
The original ironwork came from Macfarlane’s foundry in Glasgow.

Barton Arcade is a grade 2 listed historic building.

Taken in manual mode and in RAW with a Nikon D300s and a Sigma 10-20 wide-angle lens, set at a focal length of 10mm. Other settings include an ISO value of 100, F4 and a shutter speed of 1/125th sec.
Post processed in Adobe RAW and converted into black and white in CS5.
