Trained as an artist, psychologist, photographer and educator, Stephen Jackson is author or editor of a dozen books as well as a journalist whose work appeared in The Independent, Time Out, Sunday Telegraph and national magazines. He also worked in television films, one of which won Crystal Prize at the Prague Festival. But it was only in tackling his depression that he discovered the magical potential of digital imaging to transform our preconceptions of what we imagine the world to be like…

“I operate now as a survivor poet and image-maker. My themes include relationships, the human form, our natural environment, and entropy: the conception of beauty, its celebration and its loss.

I’ve sought to address the inner fears that each of us must tackle: including mortality, the need to make sense of what’s been gained and forfeited, and all those walking wounded in the universal and (some might say) necessary battlefields that litter human aspirations and language. There are few outright winners here, except of the most ephemeral kind. The tiny obsessions of early middle age: the games all of us sometimes have to play – these are my canvas. Yet I’m delighted too by the occasions for humour and tenderness that, in making sense, you find along the way.”

THE BOTTOM OF THE ATLANTIC
