Backwater dry-out.
The sad part of my recent visit to the Riverland of South Australia.
A backwater area, normally with substantial water, slowly drying out in the drought with salt and acidification of the soil. The drought and inaction on the river levels is certainly causing irreversible damage.
However it needs to be said that there is still plenty of water in the River Murray itself for activities and visits. We need to continue to support the tourism and other businesses along the river as they battle through hard times.
So that said, go visit the river and its people and maybe drop back away from the river itself and see what is slowly happening to the backwaters.
Canon 400D 18-55 lens with CIR Polarising filter. (Dirty boots and clothes from standing in the mud!!!!!)
Thanks to Emjay01 for visiting with me, go and have a look at his site for images of the River in its beauty. seehere

Steve- all your work that I heve viewed today is absolutely stunning. The colours and reflections in this scene are beautiful – the whole image is outstanding.
Steve Chapple replied
Thanks Sharon, had to stand on a wobbly log after getting through 6-8 inches of mud for this one.
Shelly Hiebert
Wow! Awesome work Steve :)
Dave Hartley
Great shot again Steve – love it although it does show the down side of the area/murray at the moment – to be honest, there has been areas like this around for the 40 years i have lived along this area – the only difference is now someone with the true passion of photografhy has been able to capture it for it’s true meaning- congratulations!
Steve Chapple replied
Yep, I agree, just a lot lower here than normal when I visit and stinking of acidification. You will note I MADE SURE I let people know this isn’t the Murray in general and that they should go visit. Especially the “Mannum Motel”.......

This is a truly superb image! So much depth and interest. Did you use the 18-55 kit lense? and what does CIR stand for in the polarising filter?
Steve Chapple replied
Yes just the standard kit lens. the CIR is a polarising filter that screws onto the end of the lens. There are other styles that place a holder over the lens and you can use a range of filters or graduated ones as well. Thanks as always for your support.

It looks more like the dead sea than the Riverland! Another beautiful capture of a sadly degraded landscape.
RosaCobos
Salt remains there… crystalized sun….
unmoving…and barren.
We ned it ….
but in small proportions.
The miracle is there….
it will rain..I wish and hope.

Brilliant work – I love the photo work you display – amazingly beautiful. ANd I love old dead trees – even if it is sad, they still have majesty and beauty.
