Out of the Shadows
One lonely ladybird, (ladybug), found in our garden this week. Hiding back in the shadows and slowly working towards the light.
For those of you who have visited my site before and seen the many thousands of these beautiful creatures that I have photographed before at my “secret location” will be dismayed to find out they are all dead.
Seems Council staff couldn’t prevent them from entering a nearby radio repeater station and rather than build a barrier sprayed the lot!!!! I have voiced my complaint and hope one day they will be able to breed and again mass in their thousands.
In the meantime we can only hope lone ones like this survive and remain alive in our gardens.
Canon 400D Sigma macro 100 – 300, worked on in Photoshop CS3.

This is so beautiful Steve, so sad to hear about the council being such destructive morons and taking the easy way out by spraying the nest of these gorgeous creatures, hopefully mother nature will find them somewhere else safer to breed!

Terrific macro, wonderful DOF.

Great shot steve. I agree with everyone; your special place was amazing and it’s a shame that they had to spray them instead of doing something else that could’ve been just as productive.

Beautiful shot Steve.

Great image Steve. Has a real sense of movement to it. Reminds me of the “yellow brick road”. Bit sad about the spraying. Just an extra thought about the image. This to me would also look good as a panorama with a small bit of yellow cripped off the top. I like it as is, but think it would also work the other way as well. gives a greater sense of “road to travel” with less yellow at top. Hope u don’t mind my suggestion.

How sad! This one is such a creature of delight. Have loved them since childhood. And was so pleased to see some children finding them in a park when visiting in Melbourne. Thanks for this lovely image.

So sad to hear about the spraying of the secret spot – you know how i love the print i bought of your pic taken there. Really angers me when people do such drastic things to other creatures, even tiny ones. They have no regard for the consequences. Those photos you took there are eternal now, never to be taken again. But thenk goodness you took them in the fist place. :)
EchoNorth
There is such a vibrant softness to this one, very enticing image of the macro world!
David Clark
My God what a sad story
- senseless -surely they could have spent a little time and money and saved the lot- hope they come back -in Montana they would swarm in mid-summer on the mountain peaks and it was one of the staple foods for the local grizzley population- always was amazed that those huge beast could bulk up on ladybugs -daveDonna Chapman
stunning!

Awesome shot..will have to put up my pics of my bugs soon…Mine are the Japanese variety..wihch are not quite so gentle as your lady-friends..but they all have their own little personalities when it comes to photos it seems. Never seen two the same!

Brilliant

That’s horrible. Those poor little murdered ladybugs… That is so typical of a council. They just don’t care. Building a barrier probably used precious resources that would normally go to their paycheck. Grrrrrr. I hope there was at least a few left behind somewhere that could start their colony again. Poor little things.
Aside from that… I love wandering around your portfolio! Always filled with beautiful photos just as beautiful as this.
Eugenio
:))) Sweet colors !!! I love ladybugs too..
