Microscope view of the mineral Tiger Eye (also known as Tiger’s Eye) from my home state of Western Australia, which makes a beautiful abstract image. I can see a river and its fringe of green cutting through a golden desert, but these fine lines lend themselves to eye-bending illusions – what can you see? This is a completely flat surface of natural material.

Formed by stacking two images at different focal lengths to compensate for limitations in the microscope optics.
