Several years ago, while visiting and photographing director James Ivory ( of Merchant/Ivory fame, the longest collaboration in film history), we started talking about extraordinary sunsets in different parts of the world, but more specifically, at the lake where both of us have a history. The sunset pictured here, with my niece Lanie in the canoe, took place that evening. Jim missed it. He had left that afternoon to see a Shakespeare play in Ashland. So this sunset shot is a toast to him and his magnificent body of work—including he being nominated three times for Best Director at the Oscars’ Academy Awards.
