I like it, but I have to say it, this looks so obviously photo-shopped, it takes away some of it for me. I think the concept is a very good one, though.
steen replied
there has been no photoshopping in this pic lavendermoon, time lapse photography is all that happened, plus a levels lift in canon photo professional. I took 37 shots this night at 30 second exposure on F8…this was the result.
so look again if you please

Wow, Fantastic image!!

I looked several times… it’s beautiful, don’t get me wrong. It just looks altered. I’m truly not trying to be mean. I just think the ‘natural occurrence’ has somehow been lost in the process. The photo is amazingly beautiful, but looks contrived to me. I’m just being honest about what I see.
steen replied
well as i said, it has not been altered, just the levels moved to lighten it up a little, would you like me to post some others from the night that look similar.
Lenny La Rue, IPA
The image is surreal because it’s so shockingly unusual. It would help if you gave some of the elements of the scene to us. Such as, is the lightning hitting water? Are the city lights in some sort of bowl of mountains and trees? What was the season and the week’s weather like?
I can’t find a single thing in the shot that actually looks altered so I’m believing you that it’s all but exactly as taken with minor enhancement for clarity. It probably qualifies for “as is”. LOL! But without seeing the location in more light or knowing where it is personally, the image is extremely wild for someone who’s never seen any sort of weather like this in any location like this. Wollongong???
Bottom line from me is that this shot is award winning material if judges know a bit more and study it carefully.
steen
Thanks Lenny, and good point
The lightning is hitting the ocean, the lights you see in the ocean are coal/cargo ships of the coast of wollongong. the pic was taken from Mt Pleasant on the escarpement overlooking the coastal plains of Fairy Meadow & North Wollongong. the trees to the right and left are in front of the house. It was taken on 26/3/08 at 9:53pm on a canon 400D, 50mm USM lens ISO 100 TV 30sec AV F1.4
Redbubble….Geoff Coleman caught the same storm for 45 minutes up the coast. the lights in his pic is wollongong…copy and paste this link

wow – how beautiful is this – what a brilliant vantage point for a brilliant storm – magic. I’m posting a composite of the 91 exposures I took that night in the next few days – it looks pretty trippy I can tell you.
