Since childhood I have been interested in the ability of photographs to provide an indelible record of the world around us, to capture one moment in time.
I live in a hundred year old farmhouse near Morrison, Tennessee. Living three miles from a crossroads that is six miles from a town of 600 people in Middle Tennessee helps me maintain a unique rural perspective.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia I was a professional in the printing and advertising industries for more than 20 years. My art is influenced by lessons of design learned there and by a love of the work of French Impressionist, modern abstract painters and photojournalists.
Beginning with original photographs I use my computer as a darkroom. Whether creating impressionistic landscapes, looking at the small parts of the larger whole, or creating vivid mandalas and abstracts, I try to bring a fresh view to common objects and scenes. I also explore the beauty in the faces of children and elders with candid portraits.
In addition to numerous regional and national awards, I was featured in Photography Forum’s 2004 and 2005 Best of Photography Annual. I studied painting at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. I lived in Sapporo, Japan for two years where I first began serious work in photography. I have traveled across the US taking photographs in more than half the states. On the leading edge of the Baby Boomer generation, I continue to explore the back roads of America in my classic VW Westie (hippie van).
