Behind the mask

When I searched for truth
I lost my faith in it

Instead of playing theater games
Where I act the part to fit the scene
I found you in between
And though we were both still wearing our masks
I could see in yours, lines and cracks
So I asked if you wanted to flee this play
Tear down the stage with the words we say

I could tell you were scarred
A whole life lived holding up a lie
All I could say was so am I
But I can’t go on acting like this
Falling through an infinite abyss

Not after seeing your light
Finally something to ground me
To give me direction, something I could see
But when I got close enough
When I peeked between the lines
As I expected, the truth did blind

But not from finding something legitimate
Not from transcending solitude
There was only one thing to conclude
I was blind, as I have been the entire time

I realized there is only one truth
That there is no truth
That beyond this mask and stage
Lie another mask and stage
That continue in an infinite regress
There only exists the search
But never success

How could this paradox be
Nothing beyond the mask
Not in you
Not in me

Behind the mask
