Looking Down From the Bridge, Staithes by

I like to look down on the fishing boats in Staithes Beck from the bridge. The main boat in the painting is my favourite coble, Pilot me B . She is a traditional clinker built coble and her striking colours are always a great addition to a painting of Staithes, the beautiful fishing village on the North East coast of England, north of Whitby.

My love of the sea stems from my childhood. I was born in Hartlepool on the North East coast and visited the little fishing village of Staithes often, as I still do today. The fishing cobles to be found on the North East coast serve as my models.
