A beautiful, sunny, crisp day in Staithes in October when cottage fires are just being lit. Staithes in the North Yorkshire coast just north of Whitby and is a magical place with a long history of associations with artists.
(acrylic and mixed media on canvas) 60 × 90 cm

My love of the sea stems from my childhood. I was born in Hartlepool on the North East coast and visited the little fishing village of Staithes often, as I still do today. The fishing cobles to be found on the North East coast serve as my models.

You show beautiful art – love the closeness to rough nature and ocean.Ruth

  • Thank you that is exactly what I try to capture. It is always good when someone else sees what I see.

just love your work….this is very special

  • There is a lovey story about the person who bought this one. A lady whose father had died of emphysema before receiving the compensation he had fought long and hard for was visiting Staithes the week she had received his compensation. When she saw the painting she said ‘it was like a breath of fresh air’, something her father had rarely experienced. She bought it in his memory.
