I am anxiously caving in

waiting for love to wash over my shores

the sails of time crashing in once more

making me falter in the undertow

.

there was a time when I could see myself

see myself against that horizon line

against the soft streak of paint

dashing my foot against the water’s edge

.

and then he came to me in a dream

hunting me down in my own backyard

taking me under with hand and foot

clashing trees against thorn and lines against curves

.

now here I remain paralyzed in this globe

seeking the way out through cracks

hiding from those rocks and high hills

fading between the words he would never say

.

but the ocean comes back fast with her revenge

her waves never forgetting what he’s done

she seeks to return the woman who was taken away

the woman who was lost and driven away

.

sun shining lightly on my hands as I awake

no longer in this dark space of shade

but on that horizon where I first met man

where my life really began caving in

.

he will come to her once the light hits the dawn
and this time he comes to embrace, not to take
for old shadows haunt and distort his eyes
and he has learned never to mess with his bride
