He would go down sometimes like black coffee
I don’t know why
Between the bitterness and the empty spaces
Maybe I lost the match
Maybe I just lost my will to try

He reminds me of how tired I am
And how much of this just isn’t even our own
Meddling hands rotting from the inside out
Envy strengthening her vines to choke

And then I think maybe it wasn’t him
Maybe the bitterness was already there
Lying in true form behind the cloud of hunger
Tickling my insides raw

So then she appears—the truth revealed
She is the one who steals everything
The taker and the taker
Always the victim as she steals away

But in my dream we reconciled
We washed away her devious deeds
We embraced and became whole
And he smiled because he was no longer severed between.
