Artist's Description

Leica DL4

This old 12" gun emplacement is in the Marin Headlands side of the Golden Gate, and was one of many on both sides of the Golden Gate guarding against Japanese invasion into San Francisco Bay during World War II. This weather-beaten, originally hand-stenciled signage is warning about the danger of smoking when there is live ammunition about, probably huge “sacks” of gun-powder as we had aboard destroyers I served on.
