The Garden Park Sigurtà is located on the beautiful hills that surround the ‘valley of the Mincio’ at Valeggio on the Mincio, a country near Lake Garda, just 10km from Peschiera. The park Sigurtà has an area of 560,000 square meters and draws its origin from the garden of Villa Maffei (1617) (by Pellesina, a pupil of Palladio), that in 1859 was the headquarters of Napoleon III
The park has received forty years of loving care, by its founder Charles Sigurtà who benefiting from an ancient right to draw water from the river Mincio, was awarded the ‘miracle’ to make lush the arid hillside. After the public opening of the Park Sigurtà, occurred in 1978, the preservation of this ecological complex has been given to the visitors, who have defined it a unique wonder of the world, so that the Park-Garden is now considered among the five the most extraordinary in the world. Known in the world thanks to the conference with Nobel laureates G. Domagk (sulfa drugs), A. Fleming (penicillin), SA Waksman (streptomycin), K. Lorenz (ethology), A. Sabin (polio vaccine), the Nature Park Sigurtà soon became a popular destination not only botanists, but also those who simply love nature
In the park you can admire the garden Sigurtà, a remarkable variety of plants and spend a whole day in absolute quiet and away from the traffic that continually plagues the area of Lake Garda. In addition, those who wish, can be found places in various parts of the park where you can stop eating and have a picnic; shop where you can buy various gadgets and souvenirs.
