This photo is a combination of three consecutive exposures of White Point Beach in the Atlantic Canadian province of Nova Scotia, Canada shortly after sunrise on September 12, 2010. I like the otherworldly quality of this image.
The Method To My Madness:
The three exposures were brought into PhotoShop as separate layers in a single document. Via the use of layer masks and varying the blend modes and opacity I was able achieve the image you see before you. I also switched over to LAB mode and went to channels, selected the lightness channel and applied a small amount of unsharp mask to that channel to bring out a bit more detail. By sharpening in this manner you don’t get the weird halo artifacts that you would just sharpening the whole image in RGB mode. After doing this I went back to RGB mode to save the final results.
