Power Of The Ocean

Artist's Description

The day after Hurricane Earl hit Nova Scotia, Canada, Darlene and I went on a photographic excursion and we found ourselves at Crystal Crescent Beach about a half hour drive from Halifax, our capital city. The most dramatic surf had already passed, but there was still some strong surf crashing against the rocks along the shoreline. This image was taken using my Canon Rebel Xsi with an EF 70 – 300mm IS lens with a ND4 and circular polarizing filters to reduce the amount of light entering the camera, so I could use a slower shutterspeed. The slower shutterspeed allowed me to achieve the blurred effect on the water. The camera was mounted on a Manfrotto tripod, and a cable release was used as well. The island in the background is Sambro Island. The lighthouse often called Sambro Light is the oldest functioning lighthouse in North America, and is in danger of being shut down for a more modern beacon.
