In the future I see giants standing here,
Protectors for all that venture near.
Shade from the sun
And shelter from the rain.
Respite from the anguish,
And relief from the pain.

In the future I see giants standing here,
Who will listen to all that we fear.
The sun will throw it’s light
To be caught by these trees,
And to dance on the ground,
To chase quick shadows of leaves,
Who’s laughter is heard
Through our memories
Brought to life by these giants
In our time of need.

In the future I see giants standing here
Beneath a cloudless blue sky, clean and clear.

This was written for my Dad after his death in 2004, and I read it at his memorial service where four of his six children and their spouses and partners planted oak trees in his memory.

I’ve been taking photographs since 1997 and I still love it. After a brief dislike of photomanipulation I now use Photoshop extensively on a majority of my work. People are my favourite subject and I’m always on the look out for new models, so drop me a line if you’re interested! :)

I love you. You did a beautiful job in writing this, and I know how difficult it was to read it…I’m glad that you keep sharing it…because it’s a beautiful piece of verse in its own right, and, I think, in sharing it there is on going therapy in it.

  • One reason why I keep showing it. Thank you, Baby.

Congratulations! I like this moving poem. It could serve as a metaphor, say, for the Transition Towns movement.. or anything/one working now to build a better future.

  • Thank you. :)
