Artist's Description

This shot was a long time coming. I’ve wanted to do a picture that dipicted the song that Autumn and I had claimed as “Our Song” for quite a while now and this is the final result. The song is No One Can by Marillion and as soon as Autumn heard it for the first time she said, “That’s our song,” and she was right.

No One Can

You landed in my life
Like a new and brighter light
That made all my past seem in the shadow
I always used to believe
That beauty was skin deep
But I need a new word to describe you
And the time that it took to take down the wall
Was the time that it took for me to fall
Hopelessly weak

No one can take you away from me now
Don’t worry if they take me away
No one can take you away from me now
Don’t matter how long we have to wait

The days before you came
Were really all the same
A greyness I used to call freedom
Endless nights out with the boys
The boasting and the noise
To think that I ever believed them

No one can take you away from me now
Don’t worry if they take me away
No one can take you away from me now
Don’t matter how long we have to wait

I don’t care what they think
You’re all I believe in
I carry you here
And there’s something of you
In everything that I love

No one can take you away from me now
Don’t worry if they take me away
No one can take you away from me now
Don’t matter how long we have to wait
No one can take you away from me now
Don’t worry if they take me away

We lived an ocean apart before Autumn came here to England to be my wife and I wanted to show how love can cross an ocean both emotionally and physically. When my very talented wife sugested using one of my sea shots instead of the texture I was struggling with as the background I knew I needed to have a nap. Why hadn’t I thought of that?!
There are three different images here, all my own. The hands were layered and filtered using the high pass filter and rough pastels, which was converted to black and white and partially erased to bring out the colour in Autumn’s hand. A border was added, then they were overlayed on top of the ocean shot and flattened and sepia toned, except Autumn’s hand.

Canon EOS 20D / Canon USM 28mm-105mm lens.
