Floodway, no way! by squared

Currently unavailable for purchase

A floodway sign on the road between Charleville and Quilpie in Outback Queensland. I believe the sign was being optimistic, but from what the locals tell me the wet season out there can wash out a lot of the roads in a matter of hours. Absolutely stunning country out there too by the way. I highly recommend the trip, especially if you’re carrying a decent camera and a lot of spare time.

I’ve tweaked the colours a lot to try to recreate the juxtaposition I felt between the sky, the rich red soil, and the yellow sign set at a jaunty angle! I had to pull up the colours a lot on the soil to try to recreate unbelievably rich red colour the soil gets out there. Vignetting is a thing I played with to see if it would assist with the dramaticness of the shot. I personally feel it did, I quite like the overall effect.

The red earth is amazing out there – I can see why you tweaked it to give the full impression. The yellow sign is a great contrast.

Yeah, I really like it. Being a queenslander I get the irony. Great shot.

Another outstnading image! I really really liked the printed version too, the sign really jumped off the paper against the vibrant background.
